Remembering our great friend Kevan Back in the Darwin winter of 1974, I met student Kevan when I taught Hydraulics 101 at Darwin Community College. In THAT Darwin summer of '74 I again came across Kevan at the Moil Emergency Centre after Cyclone Tracy, where he informed me that Merrilee and I must evacuate Darwin. Little did we know that we’d meet Kevan again…. Kevan, the most excellent host, quietly spoken, and a great cook at the many gatherings and New Years Eve parties held at Kitty and Kevan’s home. “Papa” Kevan gently cradling our baby granddaughter as he walked her around the garden pointing out the birds and the bees, the flowers and the trees. Kevan the whiskey connoisseur, introducing John to the wonders of single malt whiskey. Kevan, ever the engineer, commenting on engineering structures that could have been better designed, while we galavanted around WA in 2019. Kevan, you will be greatly missed, but you will remain in our hearts and memories. Our love and thanks for your friendship. Merrilee and John Verhoeven
