A Parkinson's diagnosis can take you to a

lonely place

You can help people like Jeni get support from the very start.

Just over a year ago, 67-year-old Jeni was thriving - active, independent, and enjoying life. Then a series of health challenges led to a shocking diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.

It was not the diagnosis Jeni had expected, not in her wildest nightmares. “You could have knocked me over with a feather.”

Jeni felt confused, distressed, and unsure where to turn. But when Jeni called Parkinson’s NSW, she found more than just information, she found understanding, and a connected, supportive community.

Jeni heard the words “You’re not alone” from the very first call to Parkinson's NSW.

We’re here for people like Jeni from that first, reeling shock of diagnosis.

Because of supporters like you, we connected Jeni with:

  • Trusted information and one-on-one guidance

  • A welcoming seminar for newly diagnosed individuals

  • Expert counselling to help make sense of it all.

That’s the difference your generosity makes.

But right now, more people than ever are reaching out for help and we urgently need your support to keep answering that call.

Your tax-deductible gift helps us be there from day one for people like Jeni. Because no one should face Parkinson’s alone. đź’ś

Just diagnosed, or ready to learn a bit more about Parkinson’s? We’ve got you.

Hi,

I am responsible for arranging the Newly Diagnosed Seminars every month. A diagnosis of Parkinson’s is a lot to take in at first. That’s why the Newly Diagnosed program was developed, to provide people with the right level of information to get started – as well as showing them they are not alone.

We know our health systems are under huge pressure right now. Unfortunately, that means people living with Parkinson’s can’t always get the help they need, when they need it. Our Newly Diagnosed seminars are just one of the many ways you help us support people living with Parkinson’s.

Your gift now makes sure people diagnosed have somewhere to turn when their future feels in doubt. Having spoken with many attendees, I know what a great deal it means to know you care.

Our Newly Diagnosed Seminars are an invaluable resource for people who are just learning about their diagnosis. They may include information on:

What is Parkinson’s – an overview with our Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist on how Parkinson’s can affect everyone differently, what medications help manage the symptoms and the importance of taking them on time every time.

Taking care of the body – attendees learn from qualified speech and exercise therapists about the importance of exercising with effort and getting a speech assessment early.

Living well with Parkinson’s – our Specialist Counsellor dives into the impact of Parkinson’s and takes questions on everything from managing anxiety and depression to sharing tips on making the most of life.

Be the reason someone like Jeni doesn’t face Parkinson’s alone.
