“It’s not just about Bill’s diagnosis. Parkinson’s NSW is here for me as a carer too helping me find answers, resources and connection." - Debbie
Together, we can support people diagnosed with Parkinson's every step of the way.
Imagine receiving a diagnosis that turns your world upside down. Now imagine facing that same diagnosis again, not for yourself, but for someone you love.
For Bill, it began with a subtle tremor in his pinkie finger. Over time, Parkinson’s slowly took hold, stealing his mobility, his independence, and the life he had once known. Bill’s wife, Debbie, immediately stepped into the role of carer, helping navigate the complexities of living with Parkinson’s and together, they braved the challenges that came with this disease.
Yet, nothing could prepare Bill and Debbie for the heartbreaking news years later, their daughter Dani, a bright, vibrant schoolteacher, had also been diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
In her early 40s, Dani began to experience strange symptoms—anxiety, depression, and physical changes in her body. Her right arm stopped swinging when she walked, and her right leg refused to kick. Initially, these symptoms were dismissed as something temporary.
But as these symptoms persisted, Dani knew something was wrong. She sought medical help, and like her father before her, Dani was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. She recalled:
